YGTTA double crowns for Iswar, Ananya

Cuttack boys M Iswar Rao and Khurda girl Ananya Basak bagged double each in the 24th YGTTA All-Odisha Open Table Tennis Tournament, which concluded here at Sachin Tendulkar Indoor Hall, Barabati Stadium today. Iswar won the two titles in junior and youth boys categories, while Ananya emerged champion and junior girls and women sections.

Asif Haque of Reserve Bank of India triumphed in men’s singles, while the rest four titles were claimed by Sushree Patnaik (cadet girls), Nakul Jamula (cadet boys), Sukruti Bhagat (sub-junior girls) and Sahil S Bhuyan (sub-junior boys).

A record number of 265 players joined the four-day tournament, which was organised by Young Generation Table Tennis Association (YGTTA), under the auspices of Odisha State Table Tennis Association (OSTTA). The tournament was inaugurated by Odisha Cricket Association secretary Asirbad Behera.

Laxmi Narayan Gupta, Principal Secretary, Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises Department OSTTA secretary Rabindra Kumar Parida, organizing secretary Nihar Ranjan Mishra, YGTTA president Gouri Ch Bose and chief referee Jiban Ballav Samal were present on the occasion.

On the concluding of the YGTTA Tournament, which coincided with National Sports Day, OSTTA organized the State Inter-School Table Tennis Tournament in collaboration with 11Even Sports at the same venue.

As many as 27 schools from various parts of the state participated in the day-long tournament; which competition in team events only. The four champion schools qualified to represent Odisha in the 11EVEN Sports National Inter-School Championship to be held in December in a city to be decided later.
